THIS JOURNAL IS NOW FRIENDS ONLY june 15 2008
"you could imagine burying the dead with their mobiles, so that we can contact them in the hereafter. this fictional scenario became a tragic reality when, the charred bodies left by the fire in the Gothenburg discotheque, the mobile phones continued to ring."
"the gripping narrative, minute by minute, of the people trapped in the upper storeys of the WTC - thanks to the mobile phone, which became the means of communication with the dead. as gripping as the televisual collapse of the TT. if the images fulfilled the desire to enjoy the spectacle of the catastrophe live, from the outside, these real-life echoes of certain death correspond to a different phantasm: that of having lived that indescribable death from the inside - the illusion of experiencing the event to the end, from the inside, intensifying the sense of good fortune at having escaped it.
but this transfiguration is never perfect: one would have had to have died there oneself. unlike Auschwitz, of which it has been said the the only true witnesses were those who did not return and hence have never spoken of it, in this case those who were stuck up there had the time to speak from the interior of death."
both by J. Baudrillard.
If you add me, I will check out your profile and journal. If I like you, I'll add you back. You are dismissed.
